4 Ways to Show Support
During Minority Mental Health Month
At TimelyCare, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are central to our organization and our mission to foster student success and improve the health and well-being of campus communities.
Now’s the time to ensure minority students have access to the emotional support and mental health resources they need. Learn more about ways to support underrepresented students.
1. Take time to learn about other cultures
2. Respect the person’s feelings, culture, personal values, and experiences
3. Don’t assume, respectfully ask questions to understand
4. Focus on well-being, not illness
Racial/Ethnic Trends in Virtual Mental Health Care Utilization Among Undergraduate Students
Report shows Asian, Black, and Multiracial undergraduates accessed fully virtual mental health services at a higher rate than expected based on institutional demographics
The Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities has published an original research article that is the first of its kind to demonstrate how virtual care can significantly enhance access to mental health care among college students across racial and ethnic groups. The peer-reviewed paper is based on findings from TimelyCare, higher education’s most trusted virtual health and well-being provider.
Analysis of data from 113 colleges and universities revealed a notable trend: Asian, Black, and Multiracial undergraduates accessed fully virtual mental health services at a higher rate than would be expected based on the demographics of these institutions.

The Steve Fund
The Steve Fund is dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color. Right at this moment, there are young people of color who are failing academically, suffering emotionally, and/or in some cases are facing serious risk, because population-specific factors influencing mental health are too poorly understood and not acted upon.
NAMI
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s leading voice on mental health and works in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.
Mental Health America
Culture, ethnicity, and race all play a large role in the way that each person experiences the world and in the types of mental health support they may need. MHA’s online BIPOC Mental Health Resource Center offers a wealth of information and tools to bring light to the unique experiences of BIPOC communities and empower and uplift BIPOC individuals on their mental health journeys.
The Mental Health Coalition
The Mental Health Coalition is dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of the BIPOC community, and we know that society’s work is far from over in creating culturally informed, quality mental health equity for all.
Mental Health Outcomes Reveal Impact
At TimelyCare, our mission is to foster student success and improve the health and well-being of campus communities. A key to fulfilling this mission is helping students get better, faster – especially those with severe depression and anxiety symptoms.
TimelyCare users who entered care with severe symptoms on the PHQ-9 or GAD-7 achieved, on average, clinically significant change by their third scheduled counseling or psychiatry visit. Additionally, those who entered care with clinical symptoms on the PHQ-9 or GAD-7, on average, dropped a severity ranking (e.g., moderate to mild) by their third scheduled counseling or psychiatry visit.

Additionally, in a first-of-its-kind partnership, TimelyCare providers go through Violet’s cultural competence upskilling program to improve inclusive care delivery for BIPOC, LGBQ and TGNC students. In a case study, Violet found TimelyCare leads the industry in inclusivity, with 10% more benchmarked clinicians than the industry average.
