The unwarranted deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks and countless other Black lives is appalling. Racial tensions are high across the country, creating civil unrest, and it weighs heavily on my heart. Knowing the hearts of our staff, I’m certain our TimelyMD team feels the same way. I believe those of us who have not experienced systemic racism cannot understand what that feels like, but we can stand with and support our brothers and sisters of color. We also recognize that internalizing love or feeling a certain way is not enough. We must stand against inequality and injustice.
One of our TimelyMD colleagues reminded me of a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that says, “There comes a time when silence is betrayal.” I believe that if we aren’t part of the solution, we are part of the problem. We have a personal, moral and human obligation to fight for equality, and to treat people with love and respect.
We must expose injustice. Or, it will spread.
We must have zero tolerance for racism.
We must cultivate diverse relationships for more than cultural moments.
