What Students Say About Our Providers
Meet Dr. Andrew Kim
Director of Psychiatry, Mental Health Provider
Dr. Andrew Kim is a board certified psychiatrist and an expert in the area of treating major depressive disorder who believes that delivering compassionate and data-driven care can have transformative, positive impacts on the communities we live in.
So I’m a board certified psychiatrist, and I work currently here at TimelyCare, which is a telehealth company that contracts with schools, colleges, universities, graduate schools, and I basically work here as the director of psychiatry. A lot of my week typically is spent seeing patients providing direct patient care as a psychiatrist over telehealth. Prior to this, you know, I kind of worked as your typical general adult psychiatrist, and I’ve worked in pretty much all settings ranging from working in emergency rooms, inpatient psychiatry units, which is where patients will sleep over in hospital setting, clinics, and even in clinical research. I get the privilege of I get to see people sometimes on some of their worst days. They, you know, I have the privilege where they feel trust trustful enough with me to share with how they’re doing on their worst state. You have these young adults who are basically kind of starting their journey into their career pathways, carving out their identity, they have their whole future ahead of them. So they are filled with energy, excitement, optimism. Also, the same time, it’s a very stressful period where you’re trying to develop your sense of identity. You’re trying to develop a sense of who I am separate from my family units. You have all these different questions and what ifs and along with those kinds of dreams and possibilities come, you know, anxieties and nervousness about big life So, so along with that, there come a lot of stressors and a lot of issues that they’re tackling. And I think it’s very fulfilling to kind of be there and have the privilege to kind of work with them to troubleshoot some of this. And, I like the fact that being here at TimelyCare, it really kind of allows me just focus on direct patient care. Take out this platform takes out a lot of the red tape about, you know, wait times, people traveling to come see you at the office, worrying about insurance coverages. It’s just, if the school works with us, we get to see their patients, at no cost to the patient, which is awesome.
