The Jed Foundation (JED), a leading non-profit focused on protecting emotional health and preventing suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults, has entered into an alliance with TimelyMD to educate colleges and universities about tele-mental health services at campuses across the country.
As part of its mission, JED operates the JED Campus program which provides colleges and universities with a comprehensive framework for supporting their students’ emotional health by strengthening mental health, and substance misuse and suicide prevention programs and systems. JED’s collaboration with TimelyMD—a telehealth company that specializes in higher education and enables students at participating schools to have 24/7 access to free medical and mental health counseling visits anytime, from licensed physicians and counselors anywhere in the United States—offers discounts to JED Campus member schools.
The need for expanded mental health resources for college students is particularly urgent as plans to reopen many campuses this fall remain uncertain. Telehealth services can be an important way for students to connect to care during these times. Since mid-March, two-thirds of the college students who have used TimelyMD’s Campus.Health program have utilized mental health counseling, with 15 percent having experienced suicidal ideation.
“As students grapple with the stress brought on by disruptions to this academic year, being able to access support systems is more vital than ever,” said JED’s Executive Director and CEO John MacPhee. “We are pleased to work with TimelyMD to increase awareness of and access to tele-mental health services for students who need more support during this critical time.”
TimelyMD has offered schools a long-term, customizable telehealth program to provide students with a range of medical and mental health solutions since 2018. Campus.Complete offers colleges and universities the most comprehensive program, which serves as an extension of current on-campus services or provides services for campuses that do not have any in place. In addition to on-demand medical, on-demand emotional support, and scheduled counseling, Campus. Complete also offers new psychiatry and health coaching services.
“Virtual access to medical care and mental health counseling has never been more important, and TimelyMD is proud of our affiliation with JED to help protect students’ emotional health,” said Luke Hejl, CEO of TimelyMD. “Increasing JED Campus schools’ access to TimelyMD’s medical, counseling, psychiatry and health coaching programs furthers both of our missions to support the overall well-being of students.”
